DayDream Believer – Goes to Bed

Decommissioning is now complete… we pulled DB out of the water Wednesday morning in Spanish Yacht harbour Virgin Gorda.

Checking with the office that my reservation was valid (it had been a couple months)

Timbo: “Hi, Im here to check on my haulout date”

Office Girl: “Yes you are confirmed”

Timbo: “For Day Dream Believer?” Office Girl: “Yes” Timbo: “For Tomorrow morning?”

Office Girl: “Yes”

Timbo: “8am?”

Office Girl: “Yes”

I have no idea how she knew who I was.. this happened last year too… at that time she asked where Gary was (Partner we share the boat with).. Good memory!

It was St. Patricks day… a bunch of catamaran boats showed up.. boxed us into our slip… with an 8am haulout.. I was certain they would still be asleep.. I checked with the skipper and he was convinced 8am was no issue.. Well.. you should have seen that crew at 7:45am.. they certainly had too many Green Beers!!!

Not nearly as chatty as the night before! ha

Derigging went really well.. Allie and Timbo worked on the outside.. While Robin varnished the bathroom (head)..

We rented a little cottage on the ocean to sleep in while taking the boat apart.. nice walk down the beach from the marina… what a nice spot!

6am Ferry to St. Thomas and now heading to the airport! Great year for DayDream Believer… She was used almost continuously since being dropped in the water back in December…

Until next year!

Lets hope for NO HURRICANES!!!

Have a Great Day!

Island Hopping with Snowman

Had a great couple weeks hopping around the islands..

We circled all the big islands, some more than once! Fun Group this year, with Robin’s sister Char and Donny, Brendan/Tracy, Snowman and Candy.. Later Allie arrived

Found a new anchorage on St. John called Round Bay.. neat spot! Allie learned to free dive to 40 feet for about 2 minutes.. Our friends Matt and Erica on a Gulfstar 54 showed her the technique..

They spent an hour on the beach to learn the breathing, then a couple hours by their boat.. She enjoys it more than scuba..

Robin not so much… 🙂

Spent 2 days snorkelling the area, before pulling anchor and heading to the BVI’s.. We met up with Snowman in the North sound…

In Leverek bay we went to the Pirate show… Michael Bean… we have been trying to see that show for a few years now..

It’s pretty fun! Certainly get’s the whole crowd involved!

Last sail of the year was a neck n neck race back to Spanish town… Great Trip, everyone had a blast…

Have a Great Day!

Captain Charlette

Just finished an awesome week onboard DayDream Believer with Robin’s sister Charlette and Donny.

Also Brendan and Tracy were with us much the trip on Snowman and Candy’s sailboat.. it was so fun chasing each other from anchorage to anchorage.

Great weather, we’ve been sailing all around the islands here having a grand time. It was an action packed week for everyone, as we wanted to hit many of the main attractions of the area.. I think we did pretty well!

COURSE: FullMoon Party at Trellis.. Baths in Spanish town, Charlotte learned to sail up to Saba Rock in the North south…. hiked the bitter end ‘Guys Trail’ Sails up for a race to Cane Garden bay with Donny at the wheel.. Sailed over to Sandy spit an all sand island.. sails up to Great Harbour.. Visit to Foxys, Soggy dollar of course… Cross the open channel to St. John to re-enter the USA at Cruz bay.. Up to MAHO beach, sailed to Cinnamon, hiked the Centre road trail.. Sailed to RedHook… jumped a plane and headed back to Seattle! So they found little time to be bored….!!!!

It was Really fun having them onboard… They signed up for next year… now that Charlotte is a master sailor and has a few more lessons to give Donny! 🙂

and get this… were only HALF THRU!!!… Crew change today… ALLIE comes aboard for a couple days of fun… then a few days of de-commissioning DayDream Believer for the offseason….

We will be slowing heading back up to Spanish town for haul out next Wednesday morning..

Strangest thing.. we ran into the IDENTICAL boat of Island Dancer.. funny to have both boats moored beside each other… Hoping to run into them again this week… they have 3 girls on board and want to meet Allie to go snorkelling..

A little shy on pics so far.. had some trouble downloading from Charlottes phone, so we can catch up on that later.. for now here’s a couple!

Have a Great Day!

Walking on Water

Full moon Party at Trellis bay was awesome as always…

Everyone trys to get the best parking spot, well any parking spot actually..   Heading over to Snowmans boat we noticed one parks backwards..  hummm.. better go have a look…   They were stuck.. big time..

Climbing out on the boom to tilt the boat wasnt working..  Calling our neighbour Richard over, we gained the ballast required and popped them off the reef!

Char and Donny are enjoying themselves “BIGTIME”…

The weather has been spot on, as has the company..   Brendan and Tracy are on Snowman’s boat with Candy..   Tons of fun!

Here’s a couple pics from the first day or so…

Have a Great Day!

4 More Islands then to the Airport!

Woke up to a beautiful morning in Cane Garden Bay…   We couldnt find Arrrrr  Mr. Parkers Dog.. perhaps he was camping out on another boat!

Sails up, Lindsay as Captain, sailed us to West end..   As we turned the corner we felt the strong Christmas winds and had to pull them down to be sure we didnt break anything!

Over to Norman Island for a Snorkelling, beach strolling, and a trip to Pirates Bight and Willi T’s!

Up early, we head over to the Indians, a very cool snorkeling place!  We were the first people on the scene of this very popular spot!

Continuing East to Cooper Island, the winds remained heavy..  We should be captured under sail in a local photoshoot company

Cooper Island is one of our new favourites..  the water is SOOOO clear!  We were all snorkeling just minutes after arriving…

Turtles are EVERYWHERE here..  there’s a video attached to an earlier post!

Spend the most relaxing day on the beach… ALL DAY !

Buddy with a helicopter on his yacht showed up..  I kept yelling “Launch the CHOPPER!”.. and eventually he did!      Must have been pretty neat cruising the islands from the air!

Next morning, we upped the sails and headed to the BATHS..  no visit to the area is complete without this!  Lindsay loved it!

One more Sail!.. over to Marina Cay! refueled and rewatered!

One more Snorkel!  I think its called Diamond Cay..  a little reef just off Marina Cay..  one of the best in the area!  so relaxing…

Eventually I had to tell Allie it was time to go..   back…  home… to the cold…  and no snorkelling…

She looked at me through the mast,  here head turned left and right.. then all I saw was flippers as she disappeared under the water…

Took a while to get her out..  she’s was NOT HAPPY to leave!

Talking about Happy.. it was HAPPY HOUR with John and Heather!  We set DayDream Believer back up on her mooring in Trellis bay..  and headed over to the loose mongoose for one last visit.

Early morning ride with John and Heather to the ferry terminal…  New load record for his car.. 7 people and 15 bags.. some strapped to the roof!

Jessi’s flight left before ours..   Robin was tearrry….

Before she left she had to get one more dose of HOT SUN..  holding her hands up on the road to tan her arms?  Cops were sitting 20 feet behind her looking at each other…??  Why is she standing with her arms in the air??  I was in the shadows with camera handy just incase it got GOOD!!   🙂

Lindsay flew with us to Florida..   and soon enough was home safe and sound …Thanks for coming on our trip it was great having you!

Into Detroit we found our car… and the interior light left on for the last 14 days in -?? weather…..   click click click…    Quick Boost and on our way!

Best vacation I can remember!

Have a Great Day!

St. John Hiking then off to England!

Pretty strong wind the last few days had us ducking into protected bays…

Added more crew with our niece Lindsay now on board, her first cruising experience!   She hasn’t turned green yet, so far so good!!!

St. John was our first destination, and wasnt long before we were up the dense forest hills with spectacular views in all directions!

Slid over to England (BVI) and over to Cane Garden bay…  a favourite hideout!

Everyone having a great time, enjoying the WARM weather, friendly people, and running into some old friends along the way…  Life is Good… real Good

Have a Great Day!

Working on KOZYBOAT!!!IMG_0621

Downwind Sailing (a Power Boaters Dream!)

Sailing downwind in 20ish knot winds the last few days!   Double reefed and still flying as fast as the engineers designed the boat to go!

Chasing $500k catamarans is always fun in the wee Day Dream Believer!
According to Snowman the fun of that is over, we will have 20+ on the nose the next few days!  🙂
Plan is to hide out in little coves of St. John… not going too far
We sailed from Tortola to Nanny Cay…   here we had a master plan… although the boat needed water it didn’t need fuel..
So Timbo Slooooowly added 5.1 gallons of fuel a click at a time on the pump as the girls sneaked into the resort to use unlimited hot water showers!
We needed TONS of water on board, all three tanks EMPTY…   seems this crew goes through water a little more than the boys did…   bonus is the boat smells MUCH BETTER! 🙂
This boat is soooo easy to handle…  Im backing into docks in high winds just to show off…  trust me, I had more than one occasion last year showing off with the opposite results!! ha!
Still finding pop tops all over the boat… mystery continues
Continuing sailing to West end, we provisioned the boat and checked out of the British Virgins…
Sails back up we headed to St. John and pulled into Maho bay for the night…
Girls wasted to time jumping in to snorkel for a few hours…
Found a interesting reef with many fish and turtles, pretty cool!
Next morning up the sails and over to Cruz Bay, St. John to Check into the US of A
We normally anchor off shore and dingy into this very small harbor….
Not this time.. we backed into the virgin island tourist dock and walked over to customs area…
Soon enough the sails are back up and we cruise over to St. Thomas, RedHook…
So… Great news, our niece Lindsay arrived last night… wind is crazy so we tucked into a secure dock…
Girlz enjoying cruising around town and using the hot unlimited water showers… geese everyone is so clean!
Everything on the boat is working awesome…   fun times!
Have a Great Day!

Bertha the Angle fish is Timbo’s friend… She hung out with him a long time on the reef!DCIM104GOPROIMG_2287

Rain Forest Adventure

Kozyboat crew flew over to British Virgin Islands to Day Dream Believer!!

Our great friends John and Heather Hamilton picked us up at the dock, and what luck for us, it was Canada Night!
This is a weekly get together with Canadians at a interesting restaurant a couple towns over from the boat (located in Trellis Bay).
Dinner was extra special with a spectacular 30 minute power outage to add to the atmosphere!..  Candles and flashlights for All!
The next day was fun, Kozyboat split up with Robin and Jessi into town provisioning, while Allie and Timbo completed some boat jobs..
A Stanction holder was replaced.. Boat hook fixed up, while we waited for our refrigeration guy (Guido) to show up…
He was almost on time (just 6 hours late) and surveyed the new exchanger Timbo found in Canada, and old one on DayDream Believer…
Guido hired Timbo to evacuate the freon (loosen da nut on the compressor mon)..  and bolt up the new exchanger…
Over a cold beer he suggested he would be back tomorrow (New years day) to pull a vacuum on the system (Using John Hamiltons generator) and add new freon…
Guido confirmed he would only stick to beer or rum and not mix tonight, so he would be fresh New Years day to complete the job…
New years night was PACKED.. you could walk to shore over the hulls of boats!   We did some quick crab dancing at the Last Resort, Loose Mongoose then of course fire balls on the beach!…  always an interesting new years in the Islands!
Strangest thing, we find pop tops all over the boat..  Robin doesnt say a thing just smiles…  Good thing we have lots of bandaids..  Seems we’ve all been limping back home per Jimmy Buffetts suggestion!
Jessi put together a wee video of cave exploring in San Juan…   This is not a tourist attraction, you literally take a 4×4 up mountain roads, turn into someone’s driveway..  drive around the odd boulder blocking the road.. etc etc..  Scotty (Captain Ron) took us to this special place!
We have been here before but never to the caves!.. This was even new for Scott who has been on the island 20 years!
You take a flashlight, (Don’t return with one if your Timbo)… and explore these crazy water fall caves..  There’s no turning back once you start.. this is not Walt Disney World!  Sooo Cool!
I don’t think words can explain it, so here’s the video!
Have a Great day!
